Ben listening to music while receiving chemo. Looks quite tired...

Yesterday, Ben spent most of the day at the hospital to get his kidneys checked to make sure things are going through correctly and that they are strong enough to withstand the next round of chemo. Luckily, we were able to go out Trick or Treating for Halloween last night just after getting. Ben loved it and has enough candy to last at least a couple months. This is only Ben’s second time going out for Halloween. All

previous times he was had to be in the hospital.

Today, Ben will be admitted to Children’s hospital for the next 3 days to receive more high-dose chemo (ARA-C). This will aLect his eye sight as the chemo can eat away at the ... He will have to have eye drops daily to help him. The ARA-C will also cause nausea and may cause cognitive dammage. On Friday, he will receive more chemo through two “pokes” in his thigh muscles. He hates this one as it hurts plenty. If all goes well, he will be discharged for a few days and then will be readmitted again for the second round of the same thing (ARA-C & the “pokes”).

Ben is becoming impatient and anxious with all the chemo and hospital visits. He still keeps his sense of humour and loves to play all sorts of games. He always asks “Will it hurt?” for any chemo he gets. It’s very diVcult to see your

son go through this. We’re hoping all this intense chemo will be eLective.
