Ben receiving high-dose chemo, still with a smile.

Ben actually did well with the chemo last week. He did not feel too much nausea as he was getting round the clock anti-nausea drugs. The injection into his leg last Friday was quite painful but he ended having only one which was fine with him. We had to give him a calming medicine before as he was quite nervous. His counts have gone down since last week as they were expected to.

Since Wednesday this week, Ben has received more ARA-C just like last week. He is much better at taking the eye drops. He had another injection in the leg today which he took much better than last week. He is also getting a small port injected in his leg just under his skin. Here, I will be giving him injections every day for the next 10 days. The injections are important since the ARA-C will bring his white blood cell count, red blood cell count and platelets down to almost nothing. The GCSF injections I will be giving him will help boost the production of white blood cells which will help him eght oL infections. This being ku season, we are hoping he will not catch anything. Today, Ben is also receiving a blood transfusion for hemoglobin and platelets. This will help boost his extremely low blood counts, until next Wednesday when we have to come into the hospital again to check that his counts are not too low

from the ARA-C. He will be coming home today until next Wednesday.
